Background

Emily was trained as a Barrister-at-Law (Lincoln’s Inn) and is a graduate of law from Queen’s University Belfast. She holds professional certification in Regulatory Compliance and has academic exposure in banking and finance law. She was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2021 and was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2024.

Emily is fluent in English, Malay, and Chinese, with working knowledge of the Hokkien dialect.

Emily works closely with clients, financial institutions, and relevant stakeholders and regulatory authorities, contributing to the orderly execution of transactions, regulatory compliance, and timely completion.

Emily has also been involved in investment, fund-related and regulatory matters, including the review of investment documentation, support for the establishment and conversion of investment funds, and legal research and preparatory work supporting the provision of legal advisory on new and innovative financial products. She has further supported regulatory monitoring and compliance advisory work in regulated financial services contexts, strengthening her ability to assist on matters at the intersection of law, finance, and regulation.

As part of her experience, Emily has been involved in preparatory and structuring work relating to family offices. This work, undertaken during an early phase of market development, included legal and structural analysis taking into account relevant jurisdictional issues. This exposure provided her with a foundational understanding of private wealth and family office structures.

In addition, Emily brings prior experience in commercial and compliance functions within a technology-focused company and a major financial institution. Her experience includes supporting the review of commercial contracts, assisting with regulatory and enforcement inquiries, conducting regulatory monitoring, and supporting governance and internal control initiatives.
