Wong Fu Teck, Jimmy

Background

Jimmy graduated with an LL.B (Hons) from Northumbria University in 2013 and completed his Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) in 2014. He completed his pupillage with Messrs Khaw & Partners and was subsequently admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2015. He joined Lee & Tengku Azrina in 2018 and is a Partner of the firm.

Jimmy is conversant in all three main languages of English, Malay, and Chinese. His proficiency in Chinese has allowed him to gain the trust of Chinese companies investing and operating in Malaysia, particularly in relation to the purchase or leasing of properties, financing needs, and cross-border transactions.

Experience

Jimmy has considerable experience in real estate transactions and currently acts for numerous licensed developers, government-linked corporations, and public-listed and private companies on the acquisition, disposal, and development of properties.

He is also active in the banking and finance sector, where he advises various Malaysian financial institutions and corporate borrowers on different types of financing structures, including syndicated and bilateral financing, project financing for construction, and corporate financing.

He also provides advisory services on corporate and commercial matters and is involved in various corporate exercises involving listed companies undertaken by the firm.

Jimmy focuses on understanding his clients’ commercial intentions and providing practical, solution-oriented advice within his areas of practice. He regularly serves as the primary point of contact on their legal matters in Malaysia.

  • Acted for a subsidiary of a public-listed company in the disposal of a large piece of land in Mukim Plentong, to be used for a data centre, to a China-based company for a consideration of RM238 million.
  • Acted for a subsidiary of a public-listed company in the disposal of a large piece of land in Mukim Plentong, to be used for a data centre, to a China-based company for a consideration of RM99 million.
  • Acted for a subsidiary of a public-listed company in a Development Rights Agreement to grant a developer (a subsidiary of a public-listed company) the right to develop a piece of land in the Township of Johor Bahru for a consideration of RM102 million.
  • Acted for a public-listed industrial developer in the disposal and lease of various industrial plots with factories erected thereon within industrial developments located at Senai Airport City and Southern Industrial and Logistics Clusters, Iskandar Puteri, Johor.
  • Acted for a public-listed industrial developer in the disposal of five industrial plots with factories within industrial developments located at Iskandar Puteri, Johor, to a Malaysia-listed Real Estate Investment Trust for a consideration of RM220 million.
  • Acted for a long-standing local industrial developer in the acquisition of various industrial plots within an industrial development located at Tanjung Langsat for a consideration of RM130 million.
  • Acted for a government-linked corporation as master developer in numerous transactions relating to the development of lands within Iskandar Puteri, Johor, including joint development with local developers.
  • Acted for a government-linked corporation in its disposal of an 8-storey office tower in the Township of Johor Bahru for a consideration of RM25 million.
  • Acted for a government-linked corporation in the sale of a lease over a plot of land in Medini for a consideration of approximately RM35 million to a local company.
  • Acted for several licensed financial institutions in the grant of syndicated financing of RM232 million to a public-listed company supporting its property development in the Township of Iskandar Puteri.
  • Acted for several licensed financial institutions in the grant of syndicated financing of RM142 million to a local company owned by foreign interest supporting its working capital.
  • Acted for a licensed Islamic financial institution in the grant of Islamic financing of RM188 million to a local industrial developer in connection with its acquisition of multiple industrial land parcels in Negeri Sembilan.
  • Acted for a licensed financial institution in relation to the grant of banking facilities of RM193.5 million to a property developer for the construction and development of a condominium project in the heart of Johor Bahru.
  • Acted for a licensed financial institution in relation to the grant of banking facilities of RM200 million to an international hotel operator for the construction and development of a hotel and villa resort in Johor.
  • Acted as Malaysian legal counsel in connection with the legal due diligence exercise for a proposed listing on the Catalist Board of the Singapore Exchange by way of a transfer listing from an existing company listed on the Singapore Exchange.
  • Acted for the vendor shareholders of a company principally involved in the business of property development and construction in respect of the share sale agreement pertaining to their disposal of the entire equity stake in the company.
